Remove text block on featured image and change hex colour

I am working in the Sela theme and am having the following 2 issues.
1. I am trying to get rid of the text block that shows up on a featured image on the home page. I would like it so that all you see is the image and that the white text block does not appear.
2. I have figured out which line of code to change so I can change the hex color of the menu bar, but would like to change the send button on the contact form to the same color.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
