Remove the "improved posting experience" from editing window.

Hello, I recently made the unfortunate choice to “Switch to the improved posting experience” to edit my blog posts when I access them directly via my blog page (when I access my posts via the classic dashboard, thankfully the old editing window comes up). I find the new posting experience not at all user friendly.

Is there any way to revert back to the old style editing window when I access my posts directly from the blog page? Many thanks for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just switch back to classic mode, bottom right on the right hand column.

It really is about time that organisations such as WordPress realised that not only do some people NOT do all their work on smartphones that need the narrow format, but that we also have wide screens upon which these narrow formats are completely wasted.

Currently the only redeeming feature is that one can still revert to the old format.

They laughingly say at the top of an edit page “There’s now an easier way to create on WordPress.com! Switch to the improved posting experience.”. Just exactly in what way is the ‘experience’ improved. It is cramped and nasty. By the way I do all my posting in text view because I cannot stand the Visual view and the way it messes with what you are doing. I guess that is just because I am a programmer and the codes not only do not bother me but I prefer them.

I am not saying the narrow format should go, far from it, just that both should remain available so that those of us who work on wide screen can get the benefit of the ‘experience’ and not have to ‘experience’ the cramped style of the smartphone format. I don’t even own a smartphone, and have no wish to. They are a gimmick as far as I am concerned and I do not feel the need to be perpetually in touch where ever I am. My email belongs in the office and not with me on the toilet. A phone is sufficient, and that is what I have – just a mobile phone. It can get email but I don’t bother.

Hi grandpadavid, many thanks for your feedback. I’ve gone into the editing window (in the “improved” format) in both Visual and Text, but I don’t see a thing at the bottom of the right-hand column that allows me to revert back to classic mode. Can you please provide more details…maybe I’m missing a step somewhere. I’m also a holdout on getting a smartphone simply because I spend enough time at the desktop computer as it is and for editing, etc, I need a big screen!

Hi again, I contacted WP Support and they resolved the issue for me as there was no option on my post editing window to reset to the classic mode. I now have classic mode back. Thanks again for the help.

I heartily agree with your opinions of the new “improved” editor. There are some improvements but not enough to justify it. Because it is such a pain to try to outwit being forced to use it, I gave in. On one of my sites however, though the “classic” version no longer works but there is no option to change to the new one and this site, which is a primary site for me, is now dead in the water! Any ideas? Is there really such a thing as real HELP from WP? If so, it is buried so deeply I can never find it.

I contacted WP via the chat box help window (I cannot remember how I accessed that, it just popped up when I logged into my WP account.) Otherwise, drop them an email at: help@wordpress.com and ask them to fix it for you. They will have to change back to the classic format for you, as they did for me. Good luck!

“Because it is such a pain to try to outwit being forced to use it, I gave in” — My feelings exactly!

The circuitous way back to the classic editor appears to change regularly, while the messaging to the new editor appears everywhere.

Until the new “improved” editor is the only game in town, i would appreciate it if we could either opt in / or out of the beta testing — and not have spend half our time navigating in and out of a truly bad interface that is definitely not an improvement.
