remove trace of profile name

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to change my profile name completely so that there is no trace of my previous name and then I can rebuild the site under a different name. I have removed all posts individually so that I have none on my profile. However, internet searches are still showing links and previews to these deleted articles even though they are no longer available and the links don’t work. Can I stop this happening? Many thanks.

  • Hi there. What you’re seeing are cached copies of your posts that exist on search engine servers. I’m afraid that there is nothing WordPress.com can do about it, as it’s the search engines themselves who keep those copies.

Some search engines will automatically delete them after a few weeks, some after a few months, and some never delete them. The only way to speed up the process is to contact each search engine directly, i.e. contact Google to get it removed from Google, Bing to get it removed from Bing, etc.

The instructions specifically to have it removed form Google can be found here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663419?hl=en
