  how do I make the margins smaller so I could make my image take up the whole square instead of seeing a white border?

  You want to remove the white space on the right side of your portfolio Images, am I right?

  Here is a link that will help you to find your way through the customizer to reach the CSS customizer:
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/

  Once you have it, you can add the code
  .single-jetpack-portfolio .entry-content {width : ….px;}

  .single-jetpack-portfolio will select the portfolio pages and .entry content will select the content of your page.
  (replace …. with the size you want in pixels)
