Remove widgets from non-blog pages
-
I would like to know how to remove my sidebar widgets from all the pages in my site except for my blog, or whether this is even possible on wordpress.com. I am using the freshy theme.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Freshy is a theme that displays sidebars for widgets on every pages in the blog. There’s not option not to display them. Why not choose another theme that does allow for full width templates like these ones? http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/full-width-template/

I want to keep the widgets on my blog page though. I like my current theme, but if I were to switch to one on the page that you suggest, can I still add them back specifically on my blog page and not on the static pages on my site? (eg About, My Research….and future pages I have in mind to add).

Posts and Pages are different. There is only one running page for posts in a blog and the themes I provided a link to above provide an option for full width display (no sidebar option) on selected pages. So “yes” you can use one of them the way you indicate and have widgets on the running page for posts only.

OK kind of a follow up question – is there a way to have a page be the homepage versus the blog? (is thecancergeek.wordpress.com be a page, and thecancergeek.wordpress.com/blog be the blog page with all the posts)

Yes you cav set a static front page if you wish and compel all returning visitors to have to click through it to find what they came for ie. to ready your most recent post. However if you aren’t aware of the SEO implications of doing that please read Better Blogging at WordPress.com: Pages and Posts
There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will show on the main (blog) page ie> running page for posts. If you do not want all the posts to show on the main page, then you can create a static front page for your site and also create a “blog” page. After you create them you go here > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

If I upgrade to pro or a custom domain name do I need a separate host or will it still be hosted by word press?

@philspm
Hello there,
Your post here is off-topic for this thread but I’ll answer it anyway. Yes, you can pruchase a domain mapping upgrade and still have your blog free hosted here at WordPress.com. I have two blogs that are hosted here on their own domains with domain mapping upgrades.
