Removed domain while transfering

    So, I’m kinda dumb and didn’t figure out how DNS transfers worked before diving in. I set up the transfer to Dreamhost on wordpress.com. I then assumed that it had transferred because I could see the new hosted site at the same address. So, I removed my plan and domain assuming I was done, but my Dreamhost control-panel tells me that the DNS is not pointing there and that it doesn’t control the DNS. That was yesterday.

    Today I put in and paid for a transfer request for the registration through Dreamhost. But, I haven’t received the email to complete the transfer, which makes me suspect I did something wrong with the aforementioned removal of the domain. I have since learned that the transfer takes 5 days from some of your documentation. Can you please help untangle this mess I made, or at least, explain where I stand at the moment?

    Hi there,

    You cancelled the domain before the transfer could complete. If you cancel the domain, you no longer own it, and it cannot be transferred any more. That action also pointed the name servers back to us.

    I’ve restored the domain to your account, and it looks like the transfer might still be in progress, but it might be good to also have Dreamhost check this on their end.

    It’s also not possible to update the name servers for a domain that’s in the process of being transferred, so there’s no way to point the domain to Dreamhost now until this process completes.

    So at this point, ask Dreamhost to check the transfer on their end, and re-start it with them if necessary, and then please be patient for the process to complete. The WordPress.com upgrades will be removed from your account automatically once it’s done.
