Removing ¨Category Archive¨box

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am new to WP. I created the blog http://www.naturalia.me using The Visual Theme. In the blog section there is a box that says Category Archives: Blog which I am trying to remove (including the box itself). I would appreciate any advice on how to do it.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there – Instead of creating a category for Blog, you could create a blank page titled “Blog” and then you could choose that “Blog” page for your “Posts Page” here:
    https://julianguerrero.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php

Then that page will show all your posts without the category archive heading. If you did that, you’d also have to remove the category page and replace it with the static page in your menu here:

    Hi Eurello,

Thanks for your quick response. I tried your suggestion and it works. The only problem is that it includes all the posts I’ve made without distinguishing between videos and text. As I have a section devoted to videos I would like the blog section to display my text posts only. The whole idea being to have separate sections for blog/texts, photos/galleries and videos. Any advice on how to achieve this is much appreciated.

An additional question, if I may, is that in the video section I have included all the videos in one post. I like how it looks but it has the disadvantage on having only one “like” and “share” and “comment” section for all videos instead on having one for each video. How can I have the the videos appearing separately but with the same size and order as I have them now.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Best,

    Julian

  • Hi Julian – So you would like to have tabs for, for example, “Videos” “Writing” “Photos”?

In that case, using categories would be the best way to do it. You’d set up the category pages in this way:
    Category Pages

The Category Archives headings will appear, though. You could hide those headings using CSS if you had the Custom Design upgrade:
    Custom Design

If you don’t want to spring for the upgrade, the other thing you could do is use pages instead of posts for your videos and organize the pages into your menu, the way you have done with your photos. Then, you can use the Blog page for just your posts, which would be text only.

The thing to understand is the difference between a post and a page; this explains it:
    Post vs. Page

in the video section I have included all the videos in one post. I like how it looks but it has the disadvantage on having only one “like” and “share” and “comment” section for all videos instead on having one for each video.

There’s really no way to add sharing buttons multiple times in the same page. You could either put each video in its own post, or you could put them into multiple pages and organize them as sub-pages under the Video tab in your Menu.

    Dear Eurello,

Thanks again for your guidance. I understand the options I have. I´ll think about the best way to organise and present my blog. Thanks again and best regards!
