Removing a Blog from Google's Search/Cache

My blog is hosted with WordPress, therefore I do not have FTP access or anything like that so I can’t access robots.txt. How can I exclude a single post or page from Google results?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can’t do that at WordPress.com, actually.

There’s no way at all? I really need to have one post in specific exempted this way, it’s really important.

You can email Google and ask, but no, not possible through any configuration you could do here. You can set it as Private and then beg Google to delete it from their cache, but since it’s only one page/post, it’s doubtful this will be high on their priorities.

Google will not agree. They will allow use of the URL removal tool ONLY when the page or post has been deleted and produces a “404”.

No hope in getting the page to 404?

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, delete the page. It has to be deleted completely. THEN contact Google.

I thought you were trying to keep it?

I am trying to get the page removed from being cached by Google.
I don’t think there’s really a way to completely delete the page with hosting by WordPress.com?

You can delete the post or page and then it will produce a “404”. It will still appear in Goggle if it has been indexed but after being deleted the URL will produce a “404” . Then you can use the URL removal tool to request that Google remove it from their cache.

The Page / Post needs to be deleted to get the 404 error – you could also set it to Draft and do the same thing.

You also need to have your site verified with Google (and other search engines) to have a Post / Page taken out of the search engines. The search engines need to know that you are authorized to ask for the deletion, else I could ask to have your site deleted if I got mad at you. The search engines seem to be real careful about who they will believe.

So just the post to Trash, that should do it?

What do you mean by “page”. If you are referring to a blog that has been deleted then you cannot use the URL removal tool. WordPress.com has their own “404” page which stays in Google’s cache – why they have this I do not know. but it means that we cannot use the URL removal tool when blogs have been deleted.
