Removing a category?

Hi, I’m a shiny newbie to WordPress so do bear with me…I’ve made my first ‘big’ mistake and was adding categories yesterday when I deleted a parent which had child categories. I deleted the parent category thinking it would delete the child categories linked to it which it didn’t and now I can’t remove the child categories…how do I do this? After this happened, I added more categories but these don’t show up on the blog…why is this? I’d really appreciate your help!

Hi. Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here – or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.
Categories should be available for you to edit or delete under Posts>Categories in your dashboard’s sidebar. And a category will only show up in the sidebar if you assign posts to it. (Makes sense: there’s no point in displaying a category with no posts filed under it.)
