  Removing a search widget:

  HI, I followed the help instructions about disabling and removing widgets, but my blog stil has 2 search widgets I want to remove to improve the formatting, they don’t go away !!

  Can you help ?

  When you remove all the widgets, you get the Theme’s default set of widgets, which probably includes a search box.

  Add an empty text widget or add your own widgets instead.

  Hey Jennifer(just) ..

  It worked really well, thanks !!

  Just one more thing … I’ll like to remove the “leave a reply” box at the bottom of the page too …I tried adding an empty text widget as you recommended ( and worked well for the search widgs) but couldn’t remove that box .. any other tricks ??

  Comments on all pages and posts on every WordPress blog are enabled by default. This page > Settings > Discussion
  Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

  Depending on the theme we use when we close comments a phrase like “comments closed” or a similar phrase may appear and if so, it can only be removed by CSS editing after purchasing a custom design upgrade.

  Widgets can only be used in the wigetized areas of the theme you are using and the Comment box is not one of them. As tt said, you can turn off comments, but it will not remove the “comments closed” without the Custom Design Upgrade, which is best only purchased if you already know CSS or are willing to learn.

  May I ask a similar tip for my blog where a “search” icon covers the blog’s title? Is there any possibile way to remove it without upgrading?

  It seems that the search box in the Header section on Sight, the theme you are using, is hard coded into the Header. Due to the length of of your site’s title, it is appearing this way.

  To make a long story short, if under your Dashboard>Settings>General Settings you can’t shorten your site title or break it into two words or under Dashboard>Appearance>Header upload a Custom Header image with the site title in it, there’s really not much you can do without the Custom Design Upgrade.

  I can actually break the title in 3, which does not look good to me.
