Removing a website

    Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine in undergrad created the website linked below for me for my birthday back in 2017, kind of as a joke. Fast forward several years, safe to say no one cares to visit this website. However, this website is still showing up when my name is googled and it’s not the best look as a healthcare person. I reached out to my friend to get the website deleted however she cannot recall which email she used to create the website. We tried to go through the “forgot my login/email” option however it asks for the activation link or transaction ID- which neither of us have. Is there anything else myself or my friend to do to get this taken off the world wide web? Please help us!!!

Try reporting the site directly to WordPress via their support or abuse page, explaining your situation. If you can prove your identity and the content affects your professional image, they may take it down. Also, try contacting the host with any ownership proof like messages or screenshots from 2017.

I also have something like this : https://www.quantvps.com

Totally understandable—old sites can linger longer than we’d like. If your friend can’t access the original account, you can try filing a request with the hosting provider or registrar (like WordPress or Wix) with proof of identity and the situation explained. As a last resort, you can also submit a removal request to Google to deindex the site from search results.

Thank you so much for trying to help me! I followed your recommendation and contacted customer support for WordPress but they were not helpful :(

This was their response to my request:

“Thank you very much for your report and for bringing this situation to our attention. However, please keep in mind that we only remove content from WordPress.com if it is in violation of our Terms of Service or User Guidelines. However, we would be happy to work with the site owner to help them regain access to the account or discuss options. Please have the account owner contact us directly.”

My friend who was the site owner said she does not have the time to go back and forth with wordpress. This is so frustrating- I just want them to take down the 1 photo of ME. I also tried to go on google to get them to remove the website from search results related to my name but they stated they can’t do anything and to reach back out to wordpress. This whole process has me so tired. Is there anything else you guy’s recommend?

    Hello there.

You’ve got someone from WordPress.com support here. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

We’re not able to handle these cases on the forums as they involve account-sensitive details.

So, to begin this process, we’re reaching out to you via email.

Please do reply to us there when you have that.
