Removing ads on a Twenty Ten Theme
-
Hi. I’m using the Twenty Ten theme and it seems there are ads making way into the bottom of all my posts without me prompting them to. I have searched high and low to find how to remove them but can’t find the answer. PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Really? Questions about those ads are one of the most frequent questions we get.
If you buy the No Ad upgrade, they’ll disappear. If you don’t, they won’t. If you hide them via the CSS upgrade, your blog will be suspended.
-
All free hosted WordPress.com blogs have ads run by WordPress.com on them since 2006. The only ones that don’t have purchased a annually renewable paid No-Ads upgrade. There is no way to remove the ads without purchasing the upgrade.
-
From the support document on advertising:
Note: To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements. We try hard to only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade.
-
hmmm, becuase I’ve had my blog since 2009 and this is the first time I’ve even noticed ads at the bottom of the posts. I thought it was something that just started. Oh well.

-
@timethief, I noticed that as well. LOL! At least they are relatively small and don’t interfere or distract from the post.

Folks at WordPress…please remove the arrogance regarding the advertisements. Your customers are trying to tell you that what you are doing is poaching on their abilities…and since I am a real newbie to this I dont buy your responses about paying to upgrade…seems like we called this blackmail in the old days…but then again some of us recall the “old days” when someone threatened you, then it was time to take our business elsewhere…doesnt matter where we take it but if they are honest and upfront I suspect you can assume the “nuclear position” some us were taught in grammar school…yep we are almost fossilized, but old mules can still kick.

If there were no ads, this service would not be free. How would you expect them to pay for all the servers, datacenters, developers, bandwidth and such that is required for 25 million blogs?
-
Also, read #9 in the terms of service that you agreed to when you signed up for a blog here: http://en.wordpress.com/tos/ . Nothing was hidden. There was no blackmail.

TOPIC AT HAND…unsolicited ads appearing on a blog… Well my goodness…there it was in full print in bold letters…how could I have been so naive? I was just looking around and was told there were all these free sites if you wanted to start a blog…now I guess I know that there is no such thing as a free lunch, even at the “Yawl Come Back Cafe” … Words of caution to the little kids…someone is taking you on a snipehunt…but I am not here to “praise Caesar,” just to comment on tackiness…whatever WordPress is, (your 24/7 support seems to lack that personal touch), your ethics and mine seem to be out of phase at moment, so as soon as I can round up my little dogies, I may just mosey on along to another “free” site…perhaps I will read all the fine print this time, including the very fine print…Are you sure you folks aren’t in politics?

TOPIC at HAND…copied verbatim from Google…guess you werent really trolling or soliciting us unsuspecting sheep out here in the Blogosphere huh???

I realize that “is” is not what we used to think “is” is anymore…the times have changed for sure…used to be a person said what they meant and meant what they said…but that must have been way back in history somewhere…

Sharing your unhappiness with Volunteers, who do not make such decisions is akin to scolding a bank teller for placing your signature on a contract without reading it, rather than taking that up directly with the bank manager. Please feel free to use the link I post below to share your feedback on advertising with Staff.Support is closed over the weekend whilst we work on improving our level of service. We’ll be back open again early Tuesday, September 6th (UTC).

Does anyone have a link to an example to how bad the ads look? I am new here and would like to see them to see if I am going to stay. Well that is if My blog can import correctly it is just titles and no content but that is another category.
-
@toodazed, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and go to google, search for one of your post titles and then click on the link in Google. This is no guarantee you will see an ad since they do not server up ads every time. As the information on ads here states, they “occasionally” show ads. Regular visitors and commenter are unlikely to ever see ads on your site no matter whether they are logged in or logged out.
-
Thanks Sacredpath, my import has only titles right now no content, but I will try. I am trying to import from Blogger tried both ways (the site and the .XML). I just read that I can upgrade to get rid of them, so that is a good thing :)
-
Oh, ok, then you will probably have to wait till after the search engines get your new site here indexed before you will be able to see any ads on your site so my suggestion is to get everything transferred over, get used to things and get everything up and running and then later on you can see if you want the upgrade or not.

I know that there is a compassionate person somewhere who can really explain what is going on in words and terms I can understand. All I wanted to do was start a free blog. Now I have ads being placed on them and being told I need to PAY for protection from them if I want to continue to have an advertisment free blog. Is there no real person I can speak to in order to get this matter resolved? I know every mule has two ends, one more pleasant and understanding than the other, so I am trying to reach that front end voice at present. Often black and white words do not convey feelings and can appear to be harsh and imperious and can be taken as argumentative and not clearly as helpful as they were meant to be. Sill looking…

You agreed to the ToS in order to get a blog at WordPress.com. Like all the rest of the 25 million WordPress.com bloggers you have to accept the advertising on your blog or purchase a No-Ads upgrade, or move your blog content to another blogging platform. I have also posted the link that you can use to reach Staff when they become available on Tuesday. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/removing-ads-on-a-twenty-ten-theme?replies=19#post-689350
