Removing ads on a Twenty Ten Theme

@muletrain10, send an email to support@wordpress.com and ask them to explain things to you.
You might want to check out blogger/blogspot. It lets you blog completely ad free. They can do that because they have a sugar daddy, google, and they are able to attach themselves to the backend of the g00g and it doesn’t even make a handful of pennies difference in Google’s expenses. WordPress has no sugar daddy, they have to pay for all the expenses of running this service.

I know that there is a compassionate person somewhere who can really explain what is going on in words and terms I can understand.
Please read the 2 above posts from timethief and thesacredpath
Also keep in mind that we are all volunteers here. Being rude about which end of a mule you are is not being respectful to folk who are trying to help.
We volunteers can understand you are unhappy, but if you read a bit more carefully, you will understand that we can not do anything about it. Please be polite.

Folks, I’ve got to say that I, too, was pretty distressed to discover ads appended to my post. I had written a very small entry about being a witness to 9/11, and the big, honkin’, ugly ads were bigger than the post. Sure I know that free ain’t free, but geez. I don’t feel that the disclosure was well-made up front.
