Removing an administrator from an account

I need to remove an old administrator from my account

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Certainly. If you are the site owner, you can click Users → All Users in your site’s Dashboard. You will have the option to Remove the other administrator when you hover over his/her name.
I hope this helps! Best wishes to you.

I am the blog owner, but an old employee set up the account. She no longer works for me, and has actually become a liability to my company. When I try to remove her, it says that I don’t have permission to remove this user. I’ve paid for my theme and my company’s name is attached to it, so I don’t want to give up the blog domain.
ID #50379867: You don’t have permission to remove this user.

Hi there, Because the other user registered the site, she is technically the owner. I know that makes the situation difficult and uncomfortable. The owner is the only one who can remove other users. This is a security policy we can’t work around.

So, I have a couple suggestions for you:

    1. If you’d like, I can email the old employee and ask her permission to remove her from the site. Once I get that confirmation from the owner’s administrative email, I can take the action.
    2. You can contact the old user, and ask her to contact us at help@wordpress.com and give us permission to remove her from the site.
    3. You could start a new site. I know this seems like a lot of work, but if you’re concerned about the old employee’s behavior, you could take these steps without her knowledge: Export the current site. Register a new site. Import the file into the new site. I can transfer the Premium theme to the new site if you’d like, since you are the owner of that upgrade. Then, you can post a note on the old site that links people to the brand new site address. Not only will this link be on your old site, but the notification will aslo be sent to your subscribers. You could frame it as “We’re launching a brand new site.”

No matter which option you choose, I do suggest exporting your site. You should have a backup. Since she owns it, she can also shut it down.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks so much.

    Hi,
I think that your suggestion to start a new blog is the best idea. Especially if the premium theme can be transferred to my new account.
Can you please contact her and request the removal as well?
Thank you so much for your help with this. A good lesson learned!

    Best,
    Rachel Ford

I’d be happy to contact the site owner, but before I do so, I’d like to confirm that you have already created a new site and imported the content, so if the existing site goes offline, you won’t be affected.

I don’t know how to import my theme without paying for it again. Can I use same email address?

    Thanks!

You will not be importing the theme. Instead, once you have a new account/website, I can remove the theme from the existing site and credit your account, and you can then ‘repurchase’ it on the new site.

Instead, you will want to export your site content and then import it into the new site.

Let’s take things one step at a time. For now, create a new blog under your existing WordPress.com account here:

    https://wordpress.com/my-blogs/

Once you’ve created a blank site, go to your existing site’s Dashboard and under Tools > Export, create an export file. Then go to your new site you just created, above, and import it under Tools > Import.

Once you’ve gotten that far, let me know what the new site address is and we’ll go from there.

Great. I have created a new blog account called “madestudiosblog.com”.

Thank you for your help with this!

    Hi Rachel,

Now that you have the new blog, you can export the content from the old blog by going to Tools > Export in the old blog’s dashboard.

Once you’ve done that, you can import that content into your new blog by going to Tools > Import in the new blog’s dashboard.

The last step will be to move the theme to your new blog. You can actually do that yourself with these two steps:

    1. First, go to your My Blogs page and click the “Change Theme” link under the old blog. You can pick a new theme for the old blog (so it’s no longer using the theme you purchased).
    2. Then, you can go to Store > My Upgrades in the old blog’s dashboard and click “Transfer to another site” to move the theme to your new blog.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
