Removing an old site we can no longer access
-
A former employee with our organization started a site on WordPress.com several years ago. That person has left and we don’t have any information about how to access the account. Unfortunately, the site is still available and is creating confusion for people who are coming across it, as the information is outdated. Is there any way we can get it hidden or taken down?

Hi Eric,
What’s the website URL? Knowing this will allow us to verify where the site is hosted and ensure we direct you to the correct support channel.
As far as I know, the only way would be to take ownership, which would require you to verify some information with WordPress.com.

If the site isn’t hosted with WordPress.com, the procedure will be different.

Hi @cwsglobal, if the site is hosted here with us, you can use this account recovery process to regain access:
https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#account-recovery-formIf you need more help with that, could you send a link to the site so we know which one we’re working with? We’ll check to see what options are available.

Thank you for your responses, really appreciated. Unfortunately, I can’t even submit the form without including specific proof of ownership (transaction ID, activation URL/key, or two-factor auth code). And we don’t have any of those.
For reference, the site is https://varefugeeresettlement.wordpress.com/. We’re not seeking access, just to have it removed.

In that case, it’s best if you email our Account Recovery team directly at
passwordhelp@wordpress.com. They’ll get back to you from there. Thanks!
