Removing archives widget

  Hi :)

  I have a problem with the Archives and the Meta widgets on my sidebar. It seems every theme has them. I want to remove them, but unfortunately when I go into Appearance > Widgets, it shows that they shouldn’t be on the sidebar at all. It registers them as not active, so I can’t deactivate them.

  Can my case be helped?
