Removing Blog Credits Bar at Bottom of Blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

    When I first created my blog, I made the initial credits invisible by changing the font size to zero. I didn’t know that this was not allowed and a moderator must have noticed because there is a new, separate bar which pops up at the bottom when scrolling down my blog. I just re-enabled the initial credits, but that new bar is still there when scrolling. Is there any way to remove the new bar? Will a mod have to re-evaluate my blog?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Is it the footer which says “Blog at WordPress.com. Customized Suits Theme” that you want removed? If so, you can type the following into the custom CSS box which can be found by going to Dashboard -> Appearance -> Customize and then selecting CSS.

    .site-footer {
    	display: none;
    }

    no, thats actually the one i want to keep. If you scroll down a little on my blog, there is another footer that automatically pops up and then goes away if you scroll more. That is what i want to get rid of

    You are not allowed to remove or hide the footer credit links. Doing so is a terms of Service violation that will get you blog suspended.

    Current Terms of Service:

    11. Attribution. Automattic reserves the right to display attribution links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com,’ theme author, and font attribution in your blog footer or toolbar. Footer credits and the WordPress.com toolbar may not be altered or removed regardless of upgrades purchased.

    The current policy about the footer in the support documentation:

    May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
    Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

    Oh thanks, Timethief. I did not know. My mistake, sorry.

    May I remove the Admin Bar, credit links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com’, theme, font, or toolbar links?
    All WordPress.com bloggers are required to maintain the Admin Bar (the dark bar that appears at the top of WordPress.com sites when logged in) as well as credit links, even our VIP bloggers. Please do not hide or alter text or links for the footer credits or the toolbar. Modifying the style of the footer text (i.e. colors and font size) is fine as long as it’s still readable. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

    Thanks. That’s very useful. :-)

    You’re welcome and rock on! :)

    As timethief noted, you cannot remove (or hide) the WordPress.com and theme credits from the footer of a blog hosted with us.

    @melodilish I don’t see any other footer. Did you resolve this issue or do you still have a question about it? If you are seeing another footer, please take a screenshot and post it to your media library so I can see what you’re referencing.

    Take a Screenshot

    ^this is the footer I am referring to. it appears when scrolling down my blog, and goes away when you scroll back up.

    That footer is the temporary one that “floats” above content while a reader is scrolling through content when Infinite Scroll is active, since the permanent footer doesn’t display immediately. It’s the same content as the actual footer. It can’t be removed, but you can disable Infinite Scroll in Settings > Reading if you wish.

    Sorry for sayings this….. But this is the irritating point about wordpress. I hate it. Removing credit fotter should be allowed at some cost.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Even the VIP program requires footer credits and the VIP program starts around $ 20,000 / year if my memory is correct

    much less expensive to change hosts – but nobody much reads the footer credit anyway

    I am new to wordpress.com and I am wondering if “Create a free website or blog at WordPress.com.” will be removed and just the regular WordPress.com theme info will remain once I pay for no ads? I don’t want to delete the wordpress footer, I don’t mind it at all, but the whole “create a free website at wordpress.com” part keeps popping up when I download a theme, even if it’s not there when I view it and it’s bugging me. Can that part be removed? I haven’t launched a blog yet, just trying to decide if I want to use wordpress.com

    @nickiwrites
    If you delete any footer credits from any WordPress.com hosted blog you are committing a Terms of Service violation and your blog can be suspended for doing it. No Ads upgrades do not result in the removal of those footer credit links. There is no means of removal that does not amount to a Terms of Service violation.

    I don’t want to delete anything. :) In fact, as I finally started customizing my free design it went away. So that must not be something that shows up on the blog footer when it’s live, but it shows up in the customize widget section. I’m new and still figuring things out. Thanks though for responding.

    If you host your site on WordPress.com, you will have a WordPress.com link and a theme link in the footer, though the exact form of those links may vary between themes.
