Removing Blog Layout
-
Hello. I want to remove the blog centered layout of my website and create a portfolio. Is it possible to NOT have a blog on a free account?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
What it sounds like you’re wanting to do is to change the theme of your site. You can find the instructions on how to do so and search for new themes on this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/
Paid plans also come with the option for more themes, but there are quite a few portfolio themes that are free.
Let us know if you have more questions about choosing a new theme!

This link should take you to the portfolio options: https://wordpress.com/themes/jamiedoesblog.wordpress.com?s=portfolio
You can also create a new site or change the title of this one if you don’t want the word “blog” in the title: https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-site-address/
If you do change the title, be aware that the old one (jamiedoesblog) will permanently not be available to you anymore.

It’s further than just changing the theme; even when choosing a portfolio theme, it changes to look like a blog. I really looking to remove the default blog content (ex: commenting, blog entries) from my site altogether, not just change how it looks.

Your options are somewhat limited when using the free website builder here at WordPress.com, however, you can disable comments on all blog posts: https://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments-for-future-posts/
And “blog” entries are just text that you enter alongside your photos. If you don’t want any accompanying text, simply don’t write anything.
In looking at the Orvis theme, it mentions that their live demo uses the “Portfolio Page Template”, which requires some small customization to achieve:
This page uses “Portfolio Page Template.” The content on the page goes here, including the heading above which is text enclosed in Header 1 tags. This page also displays projects as you can see below. You can add projects from Portfolio → Add New in the admin.
In the Customizer, you can hide the heading if you wish.
It explains how to achieve this setup on their site: https://wordpress.com/theme/orvis
I assume other free portfolios may have other similar customization options.
There is also the option for a paid theme, some of which are “unlocked” with the purchase of a Premium or Business plan, like Mellow: https://wordpress.com/theme/mellow
Hopefully this helps, but let us know if you have any other questions about setting up a free portfolio theme.
