Removing "by Author" from Kinder theme

I’ve tried adding the CSS
.entry-meta .byline {
display: none;
}
and even tried adding !important to every CSS location I could find, but haven’t been able to get the results. I have also tried making changes in Yoast to hide the author to no avail.I’m very new to WP so there is a very good chance I’m doing something wrong.
Currently using Kindergarten Child them by ThemeREX.
