removing cached pages from google search
-
To remove a cached page from google searches, I need to put this tag: <meta name=”robots” content=”noarchive”> in the <HEAD> section of my page. How do I do that exactly? Anyone got any advice?

Are you asking about a wordpress.com blog?
Short answer: You can’t.
Long answer: You can (there is a workaround), which I will give once I know this is a wordpress.com blog, since the answer will not apply to wordpress.org blogs. -

I’m not sure why you would want the cached version removed, because the next time Google crawls that page it will be updated anyway, unless it is a page that has been deleted from your blog already, but which you don’t want to appear in Google’s cache for whatever personal reasons. Eventually it will go away by itself in any case, but that usually takes some time. However, if it is important for you to remove the cached version asap, here’s how to do it:
Unless already done, sign up for Google Webmaster tools and verify your blog.
On your blog, in Settings > Privacy, select ‘block search engines’. This adds the ‘noindex’ tag to the header of all pages and for your purpose will do the same as ‘noarchives’.
In Google webmaster Tools, use the Remove URL function under Site Configuration > Crawler Access, select ‘Individual URLs: web pages, images, or other files’ (NOT ‘Cached copy of a Google search result’) and add the URL of the page/post you want to remove.
Wait for the removal to be confirmed. This can take anything from a couple of hours to a day or two. Even though it is confirmed as removed it may still linger on in the cache for a short while, but usually it’s gone for good.
After the URL has been confirmed as removed, set your Privacy settings back to ‘visible to everyone’.
Mind you, while your Privacy settings are ‘noindex’ none of your existing or new pages or posts will be crawled and indexed.
And, once your Privacy settings are back to normal, the new version of the deleted page (if there is a new version) will be crawled and indexed.
