Removing categories altogether?

  Is there any way to avoid using or displaying categories of any sort? I much prefer the tag system, and would rather use that than categories.

  Each post has to have at least 1 category. If you don’t assign one, wordpress will.

  Tags, categories, author, and date are typically included in post metadata and in most cases if you hide it, it will hide other things you do not want to hide, such as the title of the post, author and date. In some themes, the categories and tags are in separate places in the CSS and can be hidden separately, but it is theme dependent.

  In the CSS you might be able to set the category display text color to the color of the background of the post area, but again this is going to be theme dependent.
