Removing Categories & Comments
-
Hello, I would like to know how to remove all contexts of Categories from being displayed on my wordpress website. I would not like people to be able to visit Category pages, see Categories on posts etc.
I would also like to remove Comments in the same way, or at least require that the person is logged in, in order to post a comment.
Thanks for any/all the help you can give!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can turn comments off for all future posts and pages at settings > discussion (turn off trackbacks too). All existing posts and pages already published will have to have the comments turned off separately. You can use the bulk edit feature to make this task easier.

The default category is “Uncategorized” and you cannot remove it. Your main pages for enabling for disabling comments is here > Settings > Discussion

You can set your blog visibility to “private” see the options here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
You can add users by following these instructions:

To hide the category in the post metadata, you have to have CSS experience and the CSS upgrade.
-
There is one theme here that allows you to hide the categories and tags via the theme options without the need for the CSS upgrade, and that theme is iNove, but that is the only theme with that option.

I would like to simply hide all aspects of the Categories. I don’t want it showing a Category type for posts, I don’t want it linking to category pages, I don’t want people to be able to access the Categories page.
I have experience in CSS, which CSS upgrade are you referring to thesacredpath?

To modify the CSS here, you have to buy the upgrade. It is in your dashboard under “upgrades” near the top of the left navigation module.

I’d spent hours trying to resolve this issue, reading other posts, and it was your advice that was perfect:
“Any post or page published previous to the setting change will still have comments enabled. You will have to open those pages in the editor, go to the screen options tab at the top right, make sure “discussion” is selected, and then scroll down below the text box and in the discussion module disable comments for each page separately. After doing that, click the update button and the comments box will be gone.”
I appreciate it.
