Removing "category" from the url
-
Hi all,
When you add a category item in your menu and you click on it, the url shows like: http://mydomain.com/category/page. Is it possible to remove “category” and just have http://mydomain.com/page ?
Thanks

Hi, there.
On WordPress.com, that URL structure is baked in, with no way to remove the “category” part.
On WordPress sites hosted elsewhere, it’s possible to change the default base name, but there still has to be something there between the slashes in your example.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, noebiewan, I appreciate your swift response.
My guess is, in order to replace it with someone else, it would have to be done here: http://screencast.com/t/JlpJp4EBu0 , correct? Thanks

On a self-hosted site, yes. That’s the spot.
Just for future reference, if you’ve got a self-hosted WordPress site and need help, the forums at WordPress.org are where to go. The ones we’re posting on here are only for sites hosted on WordPress.com.
Here’s the link to the other site.
