Removing Category Title from Menu Page
-
Hello, I’m quite new to wordpress and I’m having difficulty removing “Category: (page name)” from my menu items.
I’d like all my blog posts to be organized via one of my menu categories, but I don’t want the title to appear where all the blog posts are listed.
For example, if you go to my photography menu item, you’ll see “Category: Photography” as the title under the header. I don’t want that in there, I simply want it to begin listing my blog posts under that category in the order they appear.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ryan,
Here’s a CSS solution. The first item changes the category title’s font color to match the background color on your site. The subsequent lines tell the respective category pages to add a new title to a position preceding the original title. The end result is that you essentially hide the original text and show some new text.
.category-journal h1.page-title, .category-photography h1.page-title, .category-calisthenics h1.page-title, .category-nutrition h1.page-title { color: #333333; } .category-journal h1.page-title:before { content: "Journal"; color: #E7E7E7; } .category-photography h1.page-title:before { content: "Photography"; color: #E7E7E7; } .category-calisthenics h1.page-title:before { content: "Calisthenics"; color: #E7E7E7; } .category-nutrition h1.page-title:before { content: "Nutrition"; color: #E7E7E7; }To accomplish this, you would need Custom Design, which is a feature of the WordPress.com Premium and WordPress.com Business Plans, for your site.

daschultemn, thank you for the quick reply. I’m trying out the 14 day trial. This is somewhat of a sneaky solution!
However, is there any way to completely remove it instead of just hiding it in the background? Or perhaps there is a better way to organize my blog posts under my menu items that would circumvent this entirely?
Thanks again.

I agree. It is sneaky.
I don’t believe there’s a way to completely remove it due to the shared environment of WordPress.com.
You might want to experiment with a page that uses a Display Posts Shortcode. You may find a result satisfactory enough that it could replace category page custom menu item.
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" image_size="thumbnail" wrapper="div" category="journal" posts_per_page="-1" include_date="true" order="ASC" orderby="title"]Create a page with this shortcode example and see how things turn out. There are lot of Display Posts Shortcode arguments you can try out. Experiment.
Let me know if you get snagged along the way and have other questions.

daschultemn, it’s coming together, thanks for all your help.
I think I will attempt to get the Display Posts Shortcode to work. I think it will give me more options on customizing the look of the page.
Quick question: Any way that I can get the posts here (shortcode version) to look like the posts here (the old category menu)?

Sorry for the delay. Looks pretty good.
Add this to your shortcode to get the date.
include_date="true"Add this CSS as well:
.display-posts-listing .listing-item a.title { font-size: 2.58rem; color: #00B4FF; } .display-posts-listing .listing-item a.more-link { display: block; }It’ll get you a little closer. Once the date gets in there, we can adjust the look.
I don’t think you’ll be able to get the comment and permalink images like on the category page.
-
Ok, great, that looks very close. No problem about the comment or permalink images.
I’d just like the date to be in the form of “Month, Day, 2015”.
Other than that, I think I’m very happy with the overall layout!

Thanks for all your help daschultemn, however I’ve discovered some limitations from hosting at wordpress.com and am looking at other options instead of buying premium.
You’ve been a great help. -
