Removing Comment Box on Specific Pages is Broken – Hemingway Rewritten
-
Greetings,
I have Hemingway Rewritten and I am able to enable/disable comments on pages via selection boxes in the page menus. However, one page will NOT take them away, even when I’ve unchecked the option repeatedly. It works fine for all other pages but this one.
My Blog: https://fictionforlesbians.wordpress.com/
The Page: https://fictionforlesbians.wordpress.com/contact_vaginawig-3/
Wordpress Version: 4.1.1 FreeTroubleshooting Steps I’ve taken:
I have deleted and readded the page three times.
I have deselected and reselected the options several times in those three different page attempts.
I have copied a working page that does not have comments twice.
I have restarted my computer.
I have cleared my cache.
I have rebooted my router. Why won’t it accept a deselect of the comment option for this one page alone?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ve tagged this thread for staff to look into, as I don’t have any suggestions beyond what you’ve already tried. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting.

The problem it the page doesn’t have a title and that can cause weird issues like this. If you give the page a title, uncheck the comment box, and save the change will stick.
Then you can go back and remove the title.

Thanks for your response, Liz. I didn’t list it previously, but I had tried adding a title. Just to be sure, here’s what I’ve done since your suggestion:
I added a title and saved, and then reloaded the page editor.
I then unchecked the boxes and saved again.
I did a hard refresh on the page and the comments were still there.
I then deleted the page altogether and created a new one with a title.
I added the contact form and unchecked the boxes before saving.
I refreshed the form and the boxes were still checked.
I unchecked them and saved it again.
I refreshed again and the boxes are still checked.I have left the page up for you to view. Here is the new path:

I’m not sure what I did that was different than what you did (as your process sounds right to me) but I was able to get the page to save without comments turned on.
Is this the only page that was behaving badly for you?

Just wondering here: what editor did each of you use? The My Sites editor or the WP-Admin editor. This might be an as-yet undiscovered bug on the new editor. @lizthefair?

@lizthefair
Yep, it looks like its the new editor. I created a page on my private test blog (completely different theme, BTW) using that editor and while the editor shows comments unselected, the comments box still appears on the published page. Here are the links if you want to check:

@vaginawig
Try editing the page via the WP-Admin editor. Click on this link: http://fictionforlesbians.wordpress.com/wp-admin/Then go to Pages ->All Pages. Under that page’s title, click on Quick Edit or Edit, and then again look for the comments option and deselect it. If it is deselected, enable them, update, disable them and update again. Let us know what happens.

This might be an as-yet undiscovered bug on the new editor. @lizthefair?
I was able to replicate the issue in the new editor as well. I’ll file a bug report.

Hello, to answer you both:
Liz – Yes, this is the only page I’m having the problem with. It’s also the only page created at a different time than the others.
Kokkieh – I have tried deselecting the discussion option on this page in both editors with the same result. However, in the admin editor, I show the discussion option deselected. This is not the case in the other editor. The page itself is unchanged.
-
The page itself is unchanged.
Do you still see the comment field on this page
https://fictionforlesbians.wordpress.com/contact-vaginawig/
The only comment field I see now is part of the contact form.
-
Not now on my phone. I’ll check my laptop when i get home. I hope it’s fixed, though I can’t see how. Oh well. I’ll take it. Lol
-
Okay, so it’s gone now. I have no idea how but as I said, I’ll take it. Thank you both for your help and suggestions. I hope it was just some fluke. I really appreciate it!
-
I’m glad if it works now, even if we’re not sure why. If you need more help with this, let us know.

This process will work in the new editor now as well. I got a report last night that the bug that was causing the problem was fixed.
