Removing "comment" icon from blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    I want to remove the cartoon icon for the comment link from my twenty eleven themed blog. I have a premium subscription. Any suggestions for how to remove it?

    I found the element in the CSS style sheet but neither “deleting” nor “hiding” makes it go away permanently.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey there,

    You can remove these comment bubbles from your current Posts by heading to the Blog Posts section of your My Sites dashboard. Select and Edit the Post you wish to remove the comments from. Select the More Options menu item from the right Post Settings sidebar and scroll down to Discussion and unselect “Allow Comments”. Here is a link to a guide for doing so: https://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-and-disable-comments-for-published-posts-and-pages/

    Now in order to make this the default setting for all further Posts created, head to your Settings > Discussion tab of your My Sites dashboard and unselect “Allow people to post comments on new articles”. Here is a link to a guide for doing so: https://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments-for-future-posts/

    This should remove the comment from all previous and all future Posts without the use of any CSS. Try it out for yourself and let us know if you run into any troubles.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers

    Thank you — but, I actually just want to remove the comment bubble, which looks like a cartoon speaking bubble in the twenty eleven theme. I don’t want to turn commenting off.

    Ah, I see – the following CSS will remove the bubble but keep the commenting option enabled on the Post page:

    .comments-link {
        display: none;
    }

    This will likely be your only option to remove the comment link icon but keep commenting feature intact for the post themselves. Do keep in mind that the option to add Custom CSS is a feature only available to those who have upgraded to the Premium or Business.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers
