Removing comments problem

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi help people.

I recently changed the theme from Neo Sapien to Journalist v1.9 and now the front page which I have had comments removed on,
gives me a “leave a comment” option and a line next to it. When I click on it it just refreshes the page without the aforementioned which is what I would like,
but then gives me and auto generated “possibly related links” option. I’ve been searching hi and low to try and fix this. I feels like
I have two versions of the same page?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thankyou.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

OOPS! You forgot to give us a link to the blog you are referring to. Will you please post it?

Also do you have a CSS editing upgrade on the blog in question?

P.S. You can turn off possibly related posts here -> Appearance -> Extras
checkmark ___ Hide related links on this blog, which means this blog won’t show up on other blogs or get traffic that way
    click “Update Extras”

    I thought I left it – sorry …..

I don’t have an CSS upgrade – no.

So when you say “I have had comments removed on” did you mean that you went to Settings -> Discussion and made the selection there to disable comments?

I have just checked out Settings -> Discussion and all looks OK.

I have basically disabled comments on everything except a page
    named “Comments”.

I understand that the “frontpage” http://frockrockfilm.com/ is a post but
am going round in circles with this.
One other thing – don’t know if it will help with the problem but once I navigate
away from http://frockrockfilm.com/ the only way to get back it to hit “ROCK ON WITH YOUR FROCK ON”
at the top of each of the other pages. I fell like something got lost when I changed theme?

I just went to my test blog and loaded the Journalist v1.9. You have definitely lost something. Where is your permalinked blog title? Is Rock With Your Frock On the blog title or a post title?

Setting that aside the “leave a comment ” cannot be moved without a CSS upgrade.

Permalink: http://frockrockfilm.com/2009/07/24/39/ then when I click on the “leave a comment” it goes to a refreshed page with
http://frockrockfilm.com/2009/07/24/39/#comments in the URL address page.

Rock on with your Frock is the Blog title – the post has no title – I left it blank – should I name it?

Okay now I get it. Every Bblog title is permalinked and no matter which page we are one we click it to deliver is back to the front page. Because yo did not give the post a title it completely threw me off. I sense that you don’t intend to create a blog with a normal structure, but I could be wrong about that. The itle is embedded in the permalink to every post along with the date so”yes” posts need titles, assuming you wish them to be indexed by search engines and found by readers using search engines.

    1. The front page which I have had comments removed on, gives me a “leave a comment” option and a line next to it. When I click on it it just refreshes the page without the aforementioned which is what I would like.

“I understand that the “frontpage” http://frockrockfilm.com/ is a post.

Your front page isn’t a post: it’s a dynamic page displaying your most recent post or posts (or their beginnings). When you click on the title of a post, you get the complete single post (along with its comments and comment box, if commenting isn’t off). It only looks like refreshing in your case, because you’ve set your front to display one post only.

    2. The “leave a comment” tab (despite the no-comments setting) is an oversight in the particular theme: it should be “comments off” or the like. The only thing you can do about it, other than switching to another theme, is report it to staff so they fix it.

    3. Some themes have a built-in Home tab, but many others don’t (see here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/the-home-tab/ ). As timethief said, the blog title always works as a home link. If you want a less cryptic link back to your home/front page, you can write one in a text widget. If you want it listed under “Pages”, you can position that text widget right below the pages widget; or you can use the technique explained here:

    Page tabs as extra links
