Removing Date, Author and Category from Hatch Theme

I’d like some help with creating a child theme for the Hatch theme so that I can get rid of the date, author and category from each post. I’d also like to remove the navigation bar underneath this. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

There is no Hatch theme here at WordPress.com. There is no FTP access to our blogs. We cannot upload third-party themes. The only themes we can use are found here in our dashboards > Appearance > Themes

This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/There are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.
If you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. I guess I am a bit confused because I installed Hatch by going to the themes menu in my dashboard, then the ‘install themes’ tab and it is right there if you look up ‘Hatch’. So could you explain why I can’t use it?

I think you are referring to a self hosted WordPress.org install and we do not provide support for them at WordPress.com. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.com blogs like the one linked to your username. Okay, I worked it out, I need to be in wordpress.org. Maybe someone should redesign one of the sites (or just use a different color) to make it recognisable which one is which!

Please post a link to the exact blog you are referring to. The one linked to your username is wearing the Kubrick theme, not the Fusion theme. -

To hide the author in the Fusion theme home page, add this to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS page:
.post .postheader { display: none; } -

I am also trying to remove date and author from my blog post: http://www.lauraleesmith.com.
I’m using Manifest theme. I tried using
.post .postheader {
display: none;
}but it does not seem to work. Any advice?

Each theme is unique and so the CSS for one won’t necessarily match another.
To hide the date and author from posts in the Manifest theme, try this:
.post-date a, .post-content .author { display: none; }In your case, you might be interested in using a static front page instead. Check out the details here:

Thanks very much, very helpful. Now I am trying to reduce the white space between my menu bar and the photo on the home page, and also trying to remove all the blog-oriented data at the bottom of the theme so that the home page looks more like a static website and less like a blog. Would like menu, photo and short copy to appear all on home page without having to scroll down.
Do you have advice? Is Manifest the best theme for me to use for this type of site, or do you have another suggestion?

Please try the static front page option first:

Thanks, I think I did do the static front page option successfully. But now I’m looking to close up the line spacing between header and photo. Thanks for looking at this, I do appreciate your help. :-)
Let me know if I need to switch to a different theme that would work better. I’m open to that but looking for something very clean and simple.

In the Manifest theme, there’s a big space allotted for the tagline, or site description. You can hide it completely and that will get rid of a lot of the space. Try this out to see if it will remove enough space for ya:
#site-description { display: none; }Regarding the theme, you can switch if you’d like, but if you do just keep in mind you should remove the CSS you’ve added so far and start again. The CSS is theme specific. Personally, I like the Manifest theme. I think it’s clean and simple and easy to read because of the small column. It works great for a small, informational site like you have setup and I’ve also seen it adjusted to work really nicely for photo blogs too.
If you still want to look at other themes though, you can view details about all of theme and see demos on the showcase site. Click the “Filters” button on the right to filter by color, feature, or other things.
