Removing dates from posts URLs in Oxygen

Dear all:

I would like to remove dates from the posts URLs.

1) Is this possible? How?

2) What effect would this change produce on (a) the dates that appear on the home page and blog page, and (b) the slider?

The dates in the URLs cannot be deleted.

No, you cannot change the permalink structure on any site hosted by wordpress.COM, and no, you cannot delete the date embedded in any URLs.

You can only suppress the display of the dates that appear elsewhere ie. in places other than the dates embedded into URLs.

I can change the date post on the upper left corner of the post edit page. When I do this, the date showed in the URL also changes.

Hi @jejorge2009, the date in the URL is the publish date of the post, or if you edit and change date, it will then reflect that new date.

The one thing to keep in mind when thinking about changing post dates, is that if the search engines have already found and indexed the post with the original date, when you change the date it will produce a 404 not found error and search engines lately have gotten quite cranky about 404 errors.

The date set in the post editor is also the date reflected in the post metadata on the blog and single post pages. If you change the date in the post editor on a post, that new date will be displayed on the post. Since the blog/archive/category/tag pages display posts in reverse chronological order (newest at top) changing dates on posts would also change the order of those posts.

Many thanks.I’m aware of the 404 issue. I just didn’t launch the blog yet and I’m posting a number of entries before I do it.

Then again, in order to be sure:

Does the post URL always include a date and this date cannot be replaced by words?

Great, and if you haven’t gone live yet, then of course there are no issues with changing dates.

Yes, the post URLs will always contain the date. With self-hosted WordPress installation on your own web hosting account, you can customize permalinks, but we can’t do that here at WordPress.com.
