Removing email notifications of changes

  • Unknown's avatar

A previous administrator is still receiving emails when we make changes, and I can’t figure out how to remove her. I don’t see her name or email address anywhere in settings or users.

The site I need help with is ladiesnational.com.

  • Hi there,

Here’s how to remove other users from your site:

    Hi
That user does not exist anymore, but is still receiving emails. We have checked everywhere. Can you please have a look for me at Ladiesnational.com? Her name is Claire Lopata and email addresses are (email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    Many thanks,
    Lori

Can you clarify what emails they’re receiving? There are no WordPress.com user accounts tied to either email address nor are those email address using any WordPress.com subscriptions, so if they’re not a member of your site, there’s not much else here at WordPress.com that we can look into without more information.

It would be most helpful if you can get a screenshot of the email in question. If you’re not familiar on how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:

    Take a Screenshot

Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.

Otherwise the email subject line, what email address this email is coming from, and the content of the email will be what we’ll need.

    Thanks!

Thanks for that, that helps! It looks like the email is being sent to (email visible only to moderators and staff) and not one of the email addresses you provided initially.

They’re getting these notifications because that email address is tied to the ladiesnational user on your site:

    https://wordpress.com/people/team/ladiesnational.com

Since that user originally drafted and published those posts, they’ll receive an email to that email address when any of their posts are updated since the updates are being done by a different user account.

Since that user owns the paid upgrades for site, we can’t delete the user and attribute the posts to another user on the site, so we’ll need to do this differently.

First, we’ll need you to enable the “show wp-admin pages when available” setting on your account page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account

Then, go to this URL which will show all your published posts:

    https://ladiesnational.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=publish&post_type=post

If you hover over one of those posts, you’ll see a “Quick Edit” link. Click that and you’ll see this which will let you change the published author of those posts: screenshot https://d.pr/i/ng6K6r

Use the drop down to choose a new author and click “update”. Do that for any other posts that this user published and that should take care of those emails.

Once you’re done you can disable the “show wp-admin pages when available” setting so you go back to the dashboard you’re used to.

Let us know if you still have trouble!
