Removing Gravatar

I no longer want to use Gravatar at all. Is it possible (or necessary) to remove it other than deleting my WordPress.com account?

Hi there,
After searching more information about Gravatar here’s what i found: it’s actually a free service that is activated by default when using WordPress.com.
“Gravatar is a free service for site owners, developers, and users. It is automatically included in every WordPress.com account and is run and supported by Automattic.” Quote from the website:
What is Gravatar

After poking at it further, it looks like the most effective way to do it is to log into WordPress.com, log into Gravatar using WordPress.com credentials, remove all images, log out of Gravatar, and then unlink Gravatar from your WordPress.com account. Rather cumbersome, I think.
