Removing header from all but last post.

I am using my blog to publish a book. I want the header to only show at the top of the first page (last post), which is the Table of Contents, then I’d like each of the older posts to have no header. Is this possible?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you hide the header image, the title of your site will not display. If this works for you, head over to the Customizer > Header and select “Remove Image”. Save your changes.

Then open the post with your Table of Contents, and add a Featured Image. It will display best with an image at least 1440px wide and 500px tall.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Hi Shawna, I don’t seem to have a “Remove Image” to select. The Customizer only gives me the option to “Add new image”.

Sorry about that. You can remove the Header Image from Appearance > Header:

It looks as though this procedure is irreversible. I would rather try it with the possibility of reverting to the present header if I don’t like the result. If it is actually irreversible (as it sounds), I will have to think about it for a while before I take the plunge. Will the title and subtitle also be removed? I want a “cover” and “title page” for my book, but not at the beginning of each chapter. Perhaps I could make another page as the cover and title page.

This is totally reversible! It just clears your current selection. The image is still in your Media Library and you can add it back at any time. I know that warning is a little daunting, but I promise you can set the Header Image back. :)

I think making another Page for your title and cover pages is your best option. Then you can add Headers to those pages. Also, note that your Site Title will appear over the Featured Images unless you uncheck “Display header text” in the Customizer > Header.

Let me know if I can help!

Thanks so much for you help. I tried removing the header image, but it still leaves a large space at the top, so that one needs to scroll down to find the beginning of the post text so for now I reloaded the image. What I’m trying to achieve is the text of the linked post immediately visible when one clicks on the links at the top. Are all themes the same in this (the need to scroll down to begin reading the new post) or should I try another theme. And if I try a different theme will all my links and formatting of text and images be retained?

All of our themes will behave slightly differently. Take a look and see if you find one you like:

    http://wordpress.com/themes

When you activate a theme, all of your formatting, text, and images will be retained.

Let me know if I can help you find a new theme!
