Removing header images, keep in library
-
I want to use random headers on my website. One of the images I originally thought I’d use was one that was already in my media library and I selected it from there. But now I no longer want to use it as a header. HOWEVER, I still use the image throughout the site (not as a header) so I don’t want to delete the image from the media library. Is there another way to tell WordPress to stop associating an image with the header? I’m not afraid to go into file manager in my host or play with the MySQL database – I just don’t know what to look for.

We provide support only for blogs being hosted WordPress.COM and not for WordPress.ORG software installs. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

I have blogs with both wordpress.org and wordpress.com – the fact that it listed all my blogs of both kinds when it asked me to say which one I needed help with, I didn’t think much about which support forum this is.
It might be helpful to help people keep such things straight if the drop down menu would only list the blogs supported by this forum. Seems an easy coding thing to do.
While I am most interested currently on this issue for my .org blog, I would like to know the answer for a .com blog for future reference. I will post my originally inquiry on the other forums as well.

Oh, and I do genuinely appreciate the very quick response! Glad to know these support forums are so active. (Didn’t mean to come across as unappreciative in my comment above.)
