Removing links
-
I was involved in a dispute with someone that we have since resolved. I made a WordPress blog about it at the time of the dispute. I included the person’s phone number in the post and tags, which I didn’t know violated WordPress’ terms of service. WordPress removed the phone number. When we resolved the matter, I deleted the blog. But the tag still exists on WordPress as its own webpage. When you do a Google search for the person’s name, the tag page with his phone number comes up. Who do I contact at WordPress about removing the tag page?

Hi there,
It can take some time for Google to update its index, and WordPress.com doesn’t have any control over this. Over time, Google’s crawlers will realize that the site is gone and Google will update its listings. You can read more about how this works here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/
You can try to speed things up by requesting a site removal from Google search results by following the instructions here:

Since the page still exists on WordPress and I don’t control it, I can’t use Google’s tools for removing web pages. It only removes pages if they no longer exist. If they’ve been changed, Google just removes the cached version and keeps it in its search results.
Neither Google nor WordPress appears to have a tool for this situation. I think WordPress should delete the empty tag page. The page itself violates the terms of service:

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I got the error message that “You’ve reached complaints for the free blogs hosted at WordPress.com. The site you’ve indicated is not running on WordPress.com.”

Can you send the link from the site – when it’s loaded in your browser, not from the account dashboard?
