removing my admin e-mail from account

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I setup up a wordpress.com page for a client using my own e-mail address originally as the admin. There are now other admins on the account. I’d like to separate myself from the account – how do I do this?
I am trying to create a separate account using my own e-mail address, but currently, it logs into the old wordpress site as an admin.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Firstly login to your WordPress.com account
then on the top-left hand side of it click on “My Sites” > Switch Site (select the site which you want to change admin of)
    >Configure
    >People > Team
If you want to remove your old account from admin role
then add the new account with your own email address you stated (add as admin) and then login to the account which you added (new) and remove your old account from it.

Assigning roles are important for doing this

  • Hi there,

If you created the site, that makes you the site owner, and you won’t be able to remove your own account from the site (assuming you’re speaking of a WordPress.com site). To remove the site from your account you will need to transfer ownership of the site to one of the other admins by following these instructions:

    Transfer a Site

kokkieh – yes, I was able to transfer the wordpress.com original page to the new admin. Great.

But, the old username listed here still exists when I loginto wordpress.com. Is there a way to update the username or totally delete this wordpress.com account so that I can start a new admin fresh with my e-mail address?

I am trying to connect jetback to a self hosted wordpress install and it requires I have a wordpress.com account. I didn’t want to use a wordpress.com account that was associated with a prior client.

    Thank you
