Removing Pages from Header

Cutline theme question: I have two parent pages, Recipes and Elaborations. Each has sub-pages, which are linked in the right hand column of the blog – I’ve asked to ‘exclude’ the relevant page #’s of the two parent pages under widgets, but they are still in the header. I deleted those 2 parent pages – a mistake, I learned. Ouch. Is there any way not to have them in the header? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

With Cutline there is no way to exclude pages from the header tabs except by making them a child of another page, which of course then introduces another layer of complexity to your sidebar widget: parent, child, child of child.

The Vigilance theme is the only one here that allows you to exclude pages from the top navigation under appearance > Vigilance Options right at the top. You exclude them by page ID #. Since Vigilance is very similar to cutline, you might want to take a look at it. It has features no other theme here has.

Thanks very much – I was happy to see the response was from you. Checked your blog and saw you hadn’t posted in a while and hoped you were ok. Anyway, will take a look at Vigilance… is it hard to move from one theme to another?? Thanks again for help, and such quick help.

You’re welcome. Not really too hard to move. There may be some futzing you have to do with rearranging widgets and such.

My blog has been neglected lately and I need to get back to it, but I’m in the middle of a move and I have several web projects going on. I’m also spending too much time here in the forums. Gotta cut down on that.

@farfalle1: You say “I have two parent pages, Recipes and Elaborations. Each has sub-pages, which are linked in the right hand column of the blog …”

I’m not sure, but I think you are making things unnecessarily complicated. If you assign one set of posts a “recipes” category, and ther other an “elaborations” category, then you don’t need to mess with Pages at all — at least not for organizing posts by topic. Your posts can all be normal posts (not Pages), chronologically arranged in your “Front Page” — which isn’t really a “Page,” it’s your blog’s homepage

To help your readers find each post by subject, use the “Categories” widget. By clicking on the desired category, your readers will see a listing of all relevant posts. In Cutline, widgets are always visible, so there should be minimal navigation problems.

Sensuous Curmudgeon (love the handle) – Well, that sounds like a good idea… but I’m kind of committed to the way I do it now. I actually post about other things usually, and the recipes and elaborations are extras – I don’t really want them to have the weight, if you will, of a post. I think. Thanks for helping!

Sacred Path ~ Thanks again. If I move to a different theme I bet you hear from me again. Hope the move goes well, as well as the web projects – auguri! Thanks.

Since you’re using the Links widget instead of the Pages widget for your “subpages”, what do you need the Recipes and Elaborations pages for?
