removing pass word pretension

Hello, I had a site that was private and pass word protected. It’s a site for a class I teach and so there are lots of links to readings. It was difficult for students to remember to log in to the site, so I removed that restriction from the website and changed it from private to hidden (so public but not so easily searchable). however, when I did that, you can’t access the readings. when you click on the links to access a reading it says you need permission and that you need to log in. I check the page settings and they all say public so I’m not sure what to do. Thank you in advance for helping!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I am able to access the pages and links on your website communityorganizingccny.wordpress.com. I am not able to find the pages which are inaccessible.

Are you talking about a different website?

So I was talking about cwecommunityorganizing.wordpress.com

It’s a page I created from the other site you mentioned. So I imported the data from the first site to make the cwe site. I realized I think that the readings are linked. So the cwe site was public but the other site wasn’t which is why the students couldn’t access the links. So I made them both public. And now the links on both sites work. Is it possible to make one site private and one site public? Thanks.

I realized I think that the readings are linked
Could you explain it a bit more? I don’t understand what you mean by readings are linked.

Both the sites you made are independent of each other.
If you make your cwecommunityorganizing.wordpress.com site public and the other site private, students should be able to access all the data on the cwe site.
They won’t be able to access any links on the cwe site that point back to your private communityorganizingccny.wordpress.com website – you need to invite students to access the private site.

Just try to make one site private and let us know the issues you are facing, we would try our best to help you out.

  • Hi-

I’m following up on the modlook tag.

Yes, one of those sites can be private, but the students would not be able to access it unless you manually approve their request to access the site. Write back if you have any other questions.
