Removing Portfolio Sidebar

I have the basic wordpress package and was wondering is there a way to disable the sidebar in my individual portfolio pages so that its full page width? It doesn’t seem to have the action to do so.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

This will depend on your theme – some themes offer a full-width template to show posts, pages, portfolio projects, or a combination of those without a sidebar. Others don’t.

If your theme doesn’t have that option, the only other way to disable the sidebar is to hide it using custom CSS, and that will require the premium plan.

Hi copperforty4, I just accomplished this myself using a not-so-direct approach. Instead of changing the page layout to the desired full width / no sidebar layout I had to use the Site Customizer instead since the portfolio pages are baked in and not directly editable (at least not without knowing the page IDs :)

My solution: Go to a portfolio item / project page (…/portfolio/project) then click “Customize” in the bottom right – alternatively, you could use the WP admin menu to go to the customizer, then navigate to one of those pages. It is best to be on one of the portfolio pages when doing this so you can instantly see the change take effect. Now, click Widgets in the Customizer menu, then click Sidebar and for each of the widgets listed there (I had a couple), make them hidden only on “Project” pages. To do this, you will see when you expand each widget, at the bottom of the settings panel there is a “Visibility” button. Click that then select “Hide” if … “Page” is … “Post Type: Project”, then click “Done”. Repeat for each sidebar widget listed. Hopefully you have solved your problem already, and maybe there is a better solution but this works for me:)

    Here is an example:
