Removing static front page

Hi – have managed to set up my blog ok BUT when I first started I opted to use the static home page. After having a good look around the themes I decided to change my original one. Unfortunately the static home page settings stayed with the theme change and I really wanted to have my blog appearing like most others ACTUALLY on my home page. I know you can hide the second home page but as I have drop down menus on my theme it sorta doesn’t work that well. Is there anyway to reset the theme so that it returns to default settings i.e my blog actually appears on my home page. Any help or suggestions much appreciated!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You just need to reverse the process that you followed on this page, which I found in the support docs by searching for “static front page”.

    Set the Homepage

For settings, there’s no “reset to default”, but that’s an excellent idea.

Hi – To be honest I’ve tried that but then you get two home pages! According to support you can hide the second home page as a child to a parent link but it doesn’t work great for The Morning After theme.

I just wish I could reset settings to return to the default home page. Thanks for the reply thought, I’m gonig to take another look just in case I misunderstood it the first time round!

    Cheers!

If you want your posts to show on the main page, go to settings > reading and set it to show your blog posts instead of a static home page.

If you created a page called “home” then set that page back to draft and it will disappear from the top navigation. If you want that page to show on the site under a different name, then edit that post and change the page title.

Maybe we need an addendum to that support doc! @tsp thanks for the catch.

Hmm just tried this but unfortunately then the Home page disappears from the navigation menu and once a visitor has navigated off the Home Page they can’t get back to it! This is my problem in a nutshell – how do I get the default Home Page to kick in permanently – on the navigation bar and everything!! I’m using The Morning After theme btw

What site are you talking about? The one linked to your username, http://pondwords.wordpress.com/ , has two home tabs, one at the top right, and then one in the main navigation above the header image.

Also on that site, your site title at top left will always link back to the home page no matter whether you have the standard blog page set, or have a static page set.

If you are talking about this site, http://pondwords.wordpress.com/ , then you should know that the theme you are using, The Morning After, does not work like normal “blog” themes. The main page, when set to the “posts” page, will automatically only show your latest post. To show other posts on that page, you have to manually set them as “sticky” posts and they will then show up under a heading of “Featured Posts.” Each time you make a new post, you have to then edit the previous “latest post” and set it to sticky so it shows in the “featured posts” section and then if you want the number of featured posts to stay the same, you have to manually unstick the oldest post.

See this post by Panos for a better understanding of how The Morning After works.
