Removing the Paragraph Block Feature
-
I’m not the most savvy with WordPress. I like to write, publish, rinse & repeat. I created a new domain for different topics, and suddenly the format here is *very* different. I don’t like the ‘block’ feature. Put simply, I like to hit enter and start a new paragraph. I don’t need a block to open with new formatting, I don’t like being unable to move words around. This is, honestly, a ridiculous feature. If I disable ‘blocks’ altogether, the draft is impossible to edit. I’d like to know how I can just edit my posts the way I always have until this week. Finding support on this is impossible (I had to navigate to this current screen by using google). I appreciate any help you have.

Hi there, if you do that in the Block Editor, that’s exactly what will happen; you’ll get a new Paragraph block automatically. You don’t need to add a new block first before continuing to type.

Thanks – I understand. I probably didn’t elaborate clearly. I don’t *want* these blocks, because I like to customize font/size/etc manually and many times I move portions of paragraphs back and forth to fit the narrative. This feature makes that difficult. And the feature isn’t present in my other domain. I’m not sure where it came from, and disabling it seems impossible.

Hello again, which site are you working on?
The MySite Classic Editor was a WPcom in-house product that was retired in August in favor of the Block Editor. You can read about the change in these WPcom blog posts https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/05/18/say-hello-to-the-wordpress-block-editor/ and https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/08/13/the-classic-editing-experience-is-moving-not-leaving/ If you are not already subscribed to the WordPress.com blog, I highly recommend it.
While the original Classic WP Editor is now available for everyone in WP Admin, just be aware that Forum staff have already advised in other threads that eventually (no timeline given) the Classic Editor there will be retired. So it’s still a good idea to try out the block editor.
So if you choose to write in WP Admin’s Classic editor, I encourage you to open up a test post or page and start with the Classic block https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/ or the full Block Editor https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/ The more you use it, the easier it will become and you’ll be ahead of the game when the Classic Editor is finally retired.
More information about the change to the Block Editor here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-classic-editor-deprecation-faqs/
If you run into a specific issue while using the WordPress editor, please open a new forum thread and let us know what that is and what WPcom site it’s happening on. Thanks.

Personally, I write what is effectively technical material; lots of lists, notes, links, and so on, rather like a Wiki. There seems to be no simple way to paste in text, apply overall formatting, and then format individual areas as needed; each “block” needs to be done individually. This is an enormous waste of my time. How do I paste things in and have the editor treat the article – returns and all – as a single “block”?
