IE9 is what I’m using. Downloaded Chrome; no difference except the cursor disappears with the writing behind the toolbar. I think the jumpiness is due to the edit box elongating when you type enough lines.

I don’t know if this has been addressed before, but I can not add links anymore. Whenever I copy and paste a link, nothing happens. This “update” is making my blogging experience pure hell.

@disperser me neither! Nothing happens when I try to post a link from YouTube, PollDaddy, etc. This is the worst “update” I have seen since blogging with WP. I am so agitated by this whole fiasco. Why can’t well enough be left alone? The devs have really screwed up this time.

I’m looking at a post (actually a page) now with 1930 words. No jumping. Yours longer than that?

re: Commenting organisation
Dear all,
For the benefit of staff & developers following this thread, I trust now is a good time to organise our individual issues using the word “re:” as you can see from what I did now.
We appreciate that the staff/devs’ are busy people who might have to scan comments to plough through all their thread workload — BUT we also want them to know (realise, appreciate) the issues we’re having.

If I had my druthers, I’d change the title of this thread because the added scrolling time, the major complaint caused by the imperfect September 22 post editor modification, is only one of many strange post and page editor problems that appear to have begun at about the same time. They might all be WordPress 4.0 version 1 issues.
Here’s the principal issue addressed in this thread, in a nutshell:
I. Removal of the internal post editor:
This, and the attendant modifications of the post and page editor window by WordPress on 22 September is the principal issue addressed in this thread. The modifications, according to numerous complaints by WP users in this thread, have resulted in more difficult access to the publishing panel, tags, etc. Many users have noted that the changes have resulted in more work and time required to edit and/or tag posts, or to perform other administrative chores because now more time is necessarily spent scrolling.However, most if not all of the user complaints related to this modification might be resolved by unpinning the administrative sidebar modules (in posts: Categories, Publish, Tags, Format; in pages: Page Attributes and Publish) so that they remain beside the editor window when as you scroll. Thenakedlistener, at Jul 23, 2014, 12:10 PM, alludes to such a fix in his earlier summary, though he says “pin” whereas I think “unpin” is what is needed. Those sidebar modules are already pinned.
II. Other issues, arising at about the same time:
The majority of the remainder of the NEW issues which I’ve noticed since the modification went into effect yesterday (22 July 2014) and which others have been complaining about in this thread, do not seem to have any necessary relationship to the modification of the editor windows. These issues include, but are not limited to the following:A. Issues I’ve noticed and reported:
1. YouTube codes are stripped as soon as pasted into post or page editor in visual mode, as noted by me and (possibly) theteaspilleddaily.
2. Text from WordPad, Notepad and presumably other similar editing tools is stripped as soon as pasted into post or page editor in visual mode.
3. Cannot center or flush-center paired images in visual editor as was easily accomplished for at least the past 3 years.
4. White space of variable size, usually quite large, at top of editing window while in visual mode. Not present in text mode.
5. Gallery editor button does not work with latest Firefox version, the brand new 31.0. Therefore cannot edit any galleries with the new FF browser. Gallery editor button does work as normal with Google Chrome. Have not yet tried an earlier FF version.
B. Issues others have noticed and reported:
1. Links are stripped when copied and pasted, according to theteaspilleddaily. I was unable to reproduce this failure.
2. Poll button doesn’t work, according to member disperser. I was unable to reproduce the result described.

Ach! Yes, musicdoc1 is right about ‘pin/unpin’ — yes, it should be ‘unpinned.’
Let’s spell it out for the devs — those panels need to “travel along in tandem with the scrolling so that they always remain in sight within the browser window.”

@musicdoc1 thank you for compiling all of the complaints in a reasonable format for the devs to take a look at. I tried once again to post a link inside an already established post and it only backspaces. For instance, if I press enter under a paragraph and try to post a link, the space disappears and the cursor moves back to the last letter in the paragraph before. This happens for blank posts, as well. This didn’t start until the “update”.

While we’re waiting for all these bugs to be sorted out, you can try the following: Switch to the text editor and type something, then switch back to the visual editor, delete what you typed and paste your link. Dear WP:
Kindly restore — or at least, offer as an option — the internal scrollbar for editing each post. I have been using WP for years for several sites. The sudden lack and disappearance of the internal scrollbar — without any consultation with users? — makes editing daily posts cumbersome, not to say disagreeably unmanageable. Please return the internal scrollbar for editing posts asap.

@kokkieh thanks for the tip. This is what I have to pretty much do with some newer issues also. For whatever reason, when I was testing a link and I previewed the post, there was space in the article I couldn’t get rid of. Switched to HTML and now the post is back in order, but this is such a hassle. I’m hopeful that the devs are taking a looking into things and will return some sort of order.

Re: the white space issue
I just heard back from staff on another thread that the white space before text in the visual editor is fixed. I have confirmed this on my blogs. If anyone else had that particular issue you should check whether it is resolved now.

Let’s try to keep the discussion focused on what improvements we can make to the new post editor. I totally get how the current setup can be a hassle — all the scrolling up and down the post screen, not to mention issues with copying and pasting, and the huge white space that appears before the post content. We hear ya! I appreciate the discussion we are having, and rest assured that we are keeping a close eye on the issues brought up. Here’s a quick update on what’s going on behind the scenes:
- There are talks on pinning some parts of the Publish Meta Box, possibly in a minimized state. For now, a rough solution would be to press the Tab button which takes you straight to the Publish Meta Box.
- The white space issue was resolved a few hours ago. Please help us test this and report back your findings.
- Copying and pasting issues in the Visual Editor were also resolved. Please test and drop us a report.
- Audio playlist not auto-advancing – resolved
- No padding in content box for some Firefox users – resolved
More updates to come when they become available. Thanks!

Thanks for the update, however, I am still seeing the white space. In fact, whenever I try to post a link, that’s when the white space is removed. Again, whenever I try to copy and paste a link, my cursor jumps to the previous area where text is, in this case, there was none, hence the reason why the white space is now gone.
