Removing user from site

I cannot remove a user from the website. That user started the original site. They also still have billing responsibilities. We run a business and the person has since left. How do I remove this person. This is ridiculous.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

The user who creates a site is also the owner of the site. You cannot remove a site’s owner.

Instead, that user will need to transfer ownership of the site to another admin on the site. That will also transfer all upgrades to the new owner, and automatically remove the old owner as a user.

Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account

We cannot initiate a transfer like this on your request. Only the current owner can transfer the site, so you will need to get in touch with that person and ask them to follow the steps outlined at the link above.

    Hi there!

First all my love to the WordPress people! I don’t know where I would be if you didn’t exist…

So yes, I’m a WP addicted, and because of that I have tons of sites, each one with a specific objective. as reports, photoblogs, communication with people with same interest and on and on…

Sometimes (rarely), I mix/mess up; that’s, when I need your help.

I tried to asign to each WP site one email with the same name; for instance, my site iwalkreport.wordpress ( still private), has now the same name as email ( iwalkreport).

The problem is that before that I was using one older email ( mine too) and I can’t remove it.

I invited myself to come to admin as iwalkreport, and now i have two admins.

    I just need one.

I did everything to delete the original ( thebps) but is not happening….(

    Can you help me?

    Thank you!

  • @iwalkreportny

I see only one site in your account, iwalkreport.wordpress.com. You aren’t a user on any other sites. I do see another username, thebestportraits, on the site, and that username is in fact the owner.

Is that the username you are trying to remove?

The only way to remove the owner of a site is for the owner to transfer the site, as I explained above. So you’ll need to log into the thebestportraits account, and transfer ownership of the site to this account of yours. That will remove that account as an admin, and this account will be left as the only admin on the site.

You need to be on this page to transfer the site:

    https://iwalkreport.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs

Please make sure you type in the correct username for the transfer, as this cannot be reversed.

i have two admin, both named above.
I want to have only one, but I can do nothing with the original, tbp.
I cant even change its role to contributor.

    I believe I did it all correctly;

from the original (tbp) i sent an invitation to iwalk to admin the site
it accepted, and now i have two admin

i want to get ride of the old one.

also i got this code text:

You have specified this user for removal:

    ID #11720483: thebestportraits
You don’t have permission to remove this user.
There are no valid users selected for removal.

    thanks!

  • As I said, you cannot remove the user who created the site.

You need to log in as thebestportraits, and transfer the site to iwalkreportny. That is not the same as inviting iwalkreportny as an admin.

The only way to remove thebestportraits from the site is to transfer ownership, so please follow the instructions I gave above.

ok, i did as was told, it worked thanks!
While there inside TBP i found another address that i wanted to transfer too.
I follow up with the transfer but I was told that i could not transfer to this email.
by the way, everything mine too.
    any idea?

  • Which site is it you also want to transfer? Try adding iwalkreportny as an admin on that site first, and then transferring it.
