Removing WordPress Footer
-
I would like to remove the: “Blog at WordPress.com. Theme: AutoFocus by Allan Cole.” footer at the bottom of my blog. I then would like to replace it with my own footer. Is this possible, if so, how do I do it? Thank you very much for your time!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s possible but it’s not allowed:
May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/ -
Hmmm, seems kind of ridiculous, will just close my account then. I appreciate your help, have a great day!

As we are free hosted here I don’t agree. Morever, even these VIP hosted blogs that pay WordPress.com com for their hosting retain the footer link credits. Best wishes no mattter what you decide to do.

I pay to use WordPress, I purchased domain through them and use paid services to have my blog, my idea was to run a business website using the WordPress platform as I do not have a lot of web-design experience. I really had no desire to have a “blog” in the traditional sense…

For free users, I do agree, but there should be an option to pay extra to not have that in your footer is I guess my opinion on the matter, don’t expect it for free…

I have domain mapping upgrades for my free hosted WordPress.com blogs like you do for your blog. I got what I paid for and nothing more just like the support documentation states under domain mapping and so did you. I’m not looking for anything beyond what I paid for and I’m sorry that you are. The bottom line is removing foooter credit links or hiding them with CSS editing is a ToS violation. And as indicated above I wish you well no matter what you do.

I am not looking for anything beyond what I paid for either, I stated I would pay for the right to remove it, not about the money, about getting something the way I would like it.
I do appreciate your time and clarity you have brought to my question. Thanks again

There is no upgrade that allows you to pay for the right to remove it. The VIP blogs are not allowed to remove it and they pay $600 and up.

Yes, it’s possible. You need to have the paid CSS or Custom Design upgrade, and then you need to make the changes in the code there. I’m afraid there’s no volunteer support for CSS though, so your best bet is to read the references listed in the CSS forum and then try making changes in the free Preview. Once you’re good enough to make the changes you want, just get the upgrade and then you’ll be able to save changes.
-
You don’t understand: I can’t help you. There are no volunteers here who are fluent in CSS and who provide that sort of support. You will have to figure it out on your own.
If you have difficulty with it, you can always request a refund for the upgrade within 30 days.

@wherearemypics:
a) Some volunteers who could help with CSS are no longer willing to do so.
b) Users who’ve bought the Custom Design upgrade are entitled to staff support.
So just post your question in the CSS forum and wait for a staff reply. -

@timethief with regard to surfacefilm’s concern… I to am looking to use this wordpress platform for a business website. I’m not interested in removing the credit to wordpress in the footer, but just want to be able to change it to look more like a professional website. Is there a way for me to give credit to wordpress for hosting the site, but remove the term “blog” from the footer – as I am in no way creating a blog – and remove the reference to a “theme” which to me is a dead giveaway to any clients visiting, that the website is not custom.

You should contact staff via the dashboard Help button and see if you can come to terms. You might be able to replace it with a sidebar widget saying “website”.
