Removing WordPress-hosted version of website

  • Unknown's avatar

TaylorOnHistory.com is a site that for 10 years was hosted by WordPress. Now I am hosting and maintaining it elsewhere (stardothosting.com). So I have 2 versions of the site tayloronhistory.com and tayloronhistory.wordpress.com. How do I remove the latter? I don’t want 2 versions of the same material since google responses are sometimes sending researchers to the wrong place.

  • Hi there,

First of all, we are sorry to see you go.

About your question. It sounds like you have a couple of options to choose from.

    1. You can Delete Your Site. Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com).
    2. You could Close Your Account. Closing your account deletes all of the sites you own and all their contents. After a few weeks, the data will be entirely purged from our system and at this point the process cannot be reversed.
    3. You can also Redirect your site. Please read the description of this option carefully. In order for the Site Redirect to work correctly, the permalinks on the new site (the one you’re redirecting to) should match those at WordPress.com.

Important note: Since your WordPress.com site has been public for a while, Google has indexed it before. This means, Google has stored information about it, that we are not able to remove. To remove indexed versions of your older website, you will have to contact Google directly.

    I hopre this helps!
