Rename site with deleted site name
-
Hi!
I want to use a site name I deleted for my current site.
I had two wordpress sites, and combined them into one. I deleted the lesser one, and tried to rename my only existing site with its name, but it would not let me.
The site I kept has a theme I prefer, and way more content, which is why I kept it.
I was the only one using that site name before. I want to use it for my current site. No one else is using it. What the heck?
Please help!

Hi,
During the process of changing the site address, after you click the Change Site Address button at Manage > Domains, and then enter a new address and click another Change Site Address button, there will be a warning such as the following:
example1.wordpress.com will be removed and unavailable for use.
example2.wordpress.com will be your new site address.
The key phrase there is “unavailable for use.” That warning is the same one referred to in step 6 in the Changing Your WordPress.com Site Address section of the Change a Site Address support page, which says:
A screen with additional details and warnings will appear. Read the information carefully and make sure this is the action you wish to take.
Also, the following warning appears near the top of the Change a Site Address support page:
Once you change the “example” part of example.wordpress.com, the old address will stop working. Visitors will not be redirected to your new site address. The old address will not be available for use again.

Hi there,
What is the site address? If it was deleted fewer than 30 days ago we should still be able to restore it to your account.
But you won’t be able to change the address of any existing site to that address.
If you want to use that address for your current site, you’ll instead need to manually migrate your content to the site once it has been restored.
