Renaming an Archive Page

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello –

    I would like to rename the following page:

    http://fromtheathleteskitchen.com/portfolio/

    from “archives” to “press & partnerships”

    I understand that I must use some code to accomplish this. If you could please help me with the code, that would be great, thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Allison

    Hello Allison!

    I’m no WordPress.com expert (yet) but I don’t believe you can do what you are trying to achieve with a WordPress.com account.

    In order to edit the code, you would need to be hosting your own WordPress website, with a host like GoDaddy or HostGator etc.

    With WordPress.com you don’t have access to the website files or their code.

    Keep an eye on this topic in case I’m wrong and someone provides a better answer. =]

    Hi – I am pretty sure it’s possible but just requires CSS that is a bit outside the realm of the typical chat support… I hope so!

    Webpage titles are an HTML edit. With CSS you edit the style of elements. In order to change the letters you would need to edit the HTML/PHP.

    I’ve seen Happiness Engineers (WordPress.com support reps) offer to make HTML edits for other people, it’s possible one might be able to make this change for you. Keep checking back, hopefully a HE will find this post soon.

    Hi Allison, the following CSS is offered with a caveat. Even though you will see “press & partnerships” as the title when looking at your site, the actual page title that the search engines will see will still be Archives. Also, the URL will also be http://fromtheathleteskitchen.com/portfolio/ . We cannot change that.

    .post-type-archive-jetpack-portfolio .page-title {
        display: none;
    }
    .post-type-archive-jetpack-portfolio .page-header:before {
        content: "press & partnerships";
        color: #60733a;
        visibility: visible;
        border-bottom: 5px solid #60733a;
        display: block;
        line-height: 1.5;
        font-size: 4em;
        padding-bottom: 0.3em;
    }

    What I did was to hide the existing title from view with the first rule and then add the title back in using a :before pseudo selector and style it like the original.
