Renaming blog/changing URL
-
I’m interested in changing my username and URL to match. When I select ‘create a new blog to match my new username’, will all of my previous posts/entries, comments, etc. still exist under the new URL? Or will this create a COMPLETELY fresh new blog and erase all of my previous posts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

From my knowledge you can’t create a new blog based off an old one. BUT you can transfer all of your old site’s content to the new one.
You’ll first need to export your old site’s content:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/Then import it to your new site:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/Hope that helps.

Thanks! So if I’m only interested in renaming a WordPress.com site to a different WordPress.com URL, I would still need to export and import? Thanks for the links!

The domain is locked after you set-up the blog. So if you want to change it your only option is to start a new one and then do the export/import.

Hey @thatmacademianut,
Have you set-up a new blog and done the export? I was fiddling around and figured out how to change the address. It was a really round about way, but here’s the path: /wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs.
Append that to your domain. Click on the address and follow the prompt.

I did set it up! I had to pay to map a custom domain to my old wordpress URL, but it did end up working out the way I wanted it to. I’ll keep your way in mind if I ever need to do it again, though. Thanks!
