Renaming WordPress site
-
**Please bear with me as I am NOT technologically savvy. I can only imagine how painful this will be for some to read.**
I am building my first WordPress site (or any website for that matter) for a small Community League I volunteer with. Currently the address I’m using isn’t correct (community name.wordpress.com). Once the correct address becomes available (community name.ca), can I transfer the pages and links and information I’ve created to the new address? Or are they forever linked to the address with WordPress in the URL?
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can change your address/url at any point in time. When you change it, your content will move over to the new name. You can read more about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
As long as that address/url is available and you register it before someone else does, then it’s yours.
If you’re wanting to have a custom domain name, then that would require a paid plan. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Thank you!! Just waiting for the old server guy to send over DNS (??) records to swap this out. Thanks again.

It sounds like you (or the community) own the domain. If so, you would just map the domain, which also requires a plan. This support document provides more details.

Best of luck!
