renew domain
-
I’ve tried on multiple occasions to renew my domain but it has expired and in an infinite loop when i hit the “renew now” button.
I’ve been trying for the past few weeks. I’ve tried a number of different ways to contact WordPress to get some assistance. I emailed again today and haven’t even had anyone personally respond.
What is going on?
Wordpress.com does not respond appropriately to queries, does not have appropriate information on its website and feels as though it has a brick wall up to stop its customers from contacting staff.
Lucky for me I have kept records of all my attempts at communication and I am building quite a significant portfolio. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, I can’t help you, but I have been having equal frustration with my domain upgrade. I’ve just changed hosting of my website and want to move my domain name (much cheaper with siteground) but can’t because it seems to be locked into wordpress. So I thought for simplicity I’d renew and upgrade with WP. It said that my upgrade would point my wordpress domain to my website domain but it hasn’t done so. So it seems I’ve just paid $26 for no change. Not sure I can waste any more time on it to be honest, which is no doubt what they are counting on and how they make their money! Good luck :)

That’s interesting. In frustration I tried to transfer the domain but couldn’t because I was locked to wordpress under a 2-month signup rule – and I lost about $40 in transfer fees. There was no information on the WordPress site about the 2 month rule and when it expired for me. I have found my experience incredibly frustrating. I have emailed on a number of occasions and not once have had a customer service representative respond. I have now taken to social media.

Email is the LEAST effective way to get the attention of staff. Posting in the forum works better. For instance, I just flagged this for staff attention, so they will get to you soonish.
There is no word on WP.com about that two month rule because it’s not a WordPress rule. It’s US law. If you get the domain back through WP you can point it to an external site and once the 60 days is up you can transfer management of the domain off WP entirely.

thanks for flagging it for staff raincoaster. I’m so disappointed that email does not work. This is not the first time I have posted in this forum but I received no response before. fingers crossed I can get this sorted asap. To add insult to injury, all the costs have jumped from last week. after this experience I want to be free of WordPress as soon as possible. It’s been appalling service.
I appreciate your reply. -
At least I feel better that I’m not the only one having problems, and that it isn’t just me being incredibly inept about IT! Thankfully I do have both my website and blog up and running so I guess I should be grateful….

It does seem to be the first time you’ve posted in the forum. But be that as it may, just subscribe to updates on this thread and when staff reply you will be able to sort it out promptly.

Hi @emmamasters,
It looks like you’re in touch with Denise through a private forum thread here:

It also looks like you’re in touch with Drew through private email. Both have responded to you recently. Can you keep all further communication in those threads? I think they’ll be much easier to handle in private since we’re working with upgrades.
@dianabrighouse – If you’re still having trouble, can you open a new thread?

Hi Jeremy
To set the record straight, I haven’t had any contact or response via email from anyone from WordPress until this morning.
It has taken 3 weeks to get some form of response through this forum or email.
I look forward to the issue being resolved.
I wish you luck in working on your upgrades.
