Allowing a domain to expire
When you allow your domain expire, it then goes through a process that can take several months to complete described at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/.If you are in the grace period you will not have to agree to pay a redemption fee set by the domain name registrar that wordpress.COM staff cannot waive.
Otherwise, if you want Staff to try to recover the domain for you then you will have to agree to pay the redemption fee.
This thread is tagged this thread in the sidebar with modlook for Staff attention. If you’re logged into the account that is associated with your expired domain, they will look up its status and get in touch with details.
If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into the associated account, and provide the domain URL here.

Since your domain is in redemption period, there is an $80.00 redemption fee required in addition to the normal renewal cost and it takes minimum 5-6 days to complete the recovery process.
See: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

Hi there,
That domain has already been removed from our system and is currently in redemption with our registrar. It is still possible for me to recover the domain at this point, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption. Let me know if you agree to that fee and I can get the recovery process started.
and it takes minimum 5-6 days to complete the recovery process.
Where did you find that information? Please don’t make promises to users as to the timelines for doing certain things if that timeline is not explicitly stated in our support documents.

Apologies. I gave only an indicative timeline from my personal experience (not with WordPress.com).

I’ve sent you a payment link via email. As soon as we receive your payment I can email our registrar to get the domain back. From there it should be restored within a day or two.
Okay. Please keep in mind that every registrar has their own processes for this, and you’ll also have a different experience when dealing directly with a registrar vs a reseller.
-
@processingpain, we’ve received your payment, thank you. I’ve emailed our registrar to restore the domain. It most likely won’t be until after the weekend, but I’ll let you know as soon as I get a reply from them.
-
Okay. your domain has been restored, and is showing your site again.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

@rachelsojourner, I’ll follow up with you in the other thread. If you already have a support ticket open, it’s best to stay in that ticket rather than creating new ones, or posting into threads started with other users.
Thanks for tagging the other thread, @akumarjain
